French Pattern

A mix of four stone sizes β€” 2 pieces 16"Γ—16", 2 pieces 8"Γ—8", 1 piece 8"Γ—16", and 1 piece 16"Γ—24" β€” creating an elegant, non-repeating layout. One of the most popular patterns for natural stone patios and pool decks.

The Pattern
French pattern β€” elegant and versatile

The French pattern β€” also called Versailles pattern β€” combines four different stone sizes in a non-repeating layout that creates a sophisticated, organic look. It is one of the most popular patterns for natural stone pool decks and patios in South Florida, offering visual richness without a rigid geometric feel.

The Six Pieces Per Repeat
2 pieces β€” 16" Γ— 16" (large square)
2 pieces β€” 8" Γ— 8" (small square)
1 piece β€” 8" Γ— 16" (small rectangle)
1 piece β€” 16" Γ— 24" (large rectangle)

Why it works for natural stone

Natural stone has inherent variation in veining, color, and texture. The French pattern's mix of sizes celebrates that variation rather than fighting it β€” no two sections of the installation look identical, which makes slight color differences between stones look intentional rather than inconsistent.

Most natural stone distributors supply French pattern sets pre-cut to standard ratios, simplifying ordering and reducing job-site cutting.
